Hello Lovely…

I love dresses. Really really love dresses. I went through a phase in college where I only wore dresses. I think I may still be in the phase, but living in NYC you have to be a little more realistic about the weather/ temperature. There’s no hopping in a car and driving exactly where you need to be. There’s almost always walking involved in city activities. Regardless, when the weather gets warm, my dresses collection comes out!

I bought this dress (above) at H&M for $29.95 (I also bought it in mint green). It’s super comfortable and could be cute for work, a lunch or even a fun summer dinner!

My Desk!

It’s funny to think how much time we spend at our desk. If you work in an office you may be there around 40 hours a week. If you work from home, it may be more! Because we spend so much time sitting there, may people view it as somewhat of  a “jail cell.” I have never been to jail, but I can’t imagine it’s nearly as fun as my desk. Anyways, my point is everyone should make their desk fun and a place they enjoy. I would like to introduce you to my desk (above). I spend more time than I’d like to admit sitting there and can say I truly enjoy it. So check out some of my favorite pieces on my desk and let me know what you keep on yours!

Light-Up Gummy Bear: How can you not smile when you have a light-up gummy bear on your desk. For a fun touch, add a tiara!

Bobble Water Bottle: Sometimes I go a whole day without drinking a single drop of water. THAT’S SO BAD! So now I always keep a water bottle on my desk to help remind me to drink up. The Bobble has a built-in water filter that makes any tap water taste fancy.

FujiFilm Instant Camera: There is something amazing about having a tangible photo moments after you take it. Call me old school, but I love this instant camera. You know my obsessions with photo booths!

EOS Lip Balm: You can never have too much chopstick and this one is cute enough to keep around.

Hair Tie: Don’t tell me you’ve never gone to work without a hair tie. It’s like trying to run a marathon in flip-flops! I always keep extras at my desk.

Knot & Bow Stickers: Like Pringles, once you pop the fun don’t stop. These cute heart stickers make everything look a little more fun.

Evian Mist: Keeps your skin feeling hydrated and fresh!

Mac Desktop: I know I sound like a 90 year-old loser, but I love desktop computers. Knowing that my work can’t follow me around (like a laptop) inspires me to sit down, bang it out, and be done with it. Plus the screen is big and easy to read!

Glitter Nail Polish

I know, another nail polish post. I can’t help it! I’ve had an OPI Gel manicure for the past 3 months and just got it off over Easter weekend. Since I haven’t been able to experiment with polish for so long, I’ve kind of gone crazy recently. Just bare with me, I promise there won’t be many more!

My all time favorite nail polish is Mint Candy Apple by Essie and ironically enough I can never find it anywhere! So, I used my best detective skills and found a similar shade at the drugstore (Sally Hansen Hard as Nails Xtreme Wear Nail Color in Mint Sorbet). When my nails were finally free of gel I wanted to give them a fresh coat of my “Mint Candy Apple look-alike.” While  perusing the aisles of CVS I came across Milani Jewel FX Nail Polish in Gems. It immediately caught my eye because the polish is full of different sizes and colors of glitter making it (almost) like confetti! Anyways, I thought it would be fun to layer over Mint Sorbet so I gave it a try and loved the results.

If you want to try this glitter polish at home remember that a little goes a long way so stick to one coat. Also, if you ever have a super chipped manicure, it’s great to throw on as a topcoat. The glitter will distract people from your chipped polish and it dries in seconds!

Created with cinemagr.am

About a year and a half ago I discovered the app Instagram and I think it’s safe to say that it changed the way I use my iPhone. The iPhone camera has always been good, but there was something missing. I never felt like my pictures lived up to my experiences. But once I started using Instagram that totally changed. You have so many filters you can make a boring picture look like a work of art.

I never though I would find another photo app that I loved as much as Instagram. That was until I discovered Cinemagram. To keep it short, Cinemagram is “a fun and beautiful way to animate your photos.”  You take a short 2-3 second video, select the area you’d like to animate, and then choose a filter. Voila! You’ve created an amazing image that looks like it belongs on the front page of “The Daily Prophet” (that’s right, the newspaper in Harry Potter…don’t act like you didn’t know that!)

Check our the Cinemagram tumblr account as well as the fun Cinemagrams (above and below) that my sister and I took!

Nailed It.

So it’s not breaking news, but nail art is in. In fact, the Spring/Summer 2012 runways were swimming with colorful varieties of nail art. From Aztec prints to minty stripes, artistic manicures are hot this season. But let’s get real, some of you (not including myself in this) may not feel comfortable sporting a crazy manicure. If this is the case, you’re in luck! I’ve come up with a fun (inexpensive) way to spice up your manicure for a day or two.

First of all, if you haven’t seen the amazing post from the beauty department about DIY Nail Stickers, you should check it out. If you’re like me and don’t have quite enough willpower to paint nail polish on tape, you can try the next best thing… washi tape! For those of you who don’t know, washi tape is brightly colored or printed paper tape that comes on small rolls. You can use it for just about anything (warning: once you buy it you’ll start putting it everywhere. My roommate currently replaced all of the magnets on the refrigerator with washi tape).

SO, if you want to sport a fun yet simple print without a long-time investment, try washi tape. It’s simple, first paint your nails with a solid color. I used Mint Sorbet by Sally Hansen (my drugstore version of Essie Mint Candy Apple). Next, select your print/color of wash tape. I chose neon pink but there are thousands of other options here and here. Pick your poison!  Cut the tape into thin strips using good scissors. I suggest cutting different widths to add dimension to your manicure. Lastly, lay the strips on your nail. Use a wood cuticle push to smooth out any uneven areas. (NOTE: You may find it hard to lay the strips down on your opposite hand so it can be handy to have a friend or a roommate around!)

The tape will last for about a day and can peel off without damaging your nail. So give it a try, and let me know what you think!

1. The Wet Brush
2. Goody Simple Styles Spin Pin
3. CoverGirl NatureLuxe Foundation

Happy Friday everyone! I hope you’re ready for the weekend and some beautiful spring weather. Just wanted to take a quick second to share some of my current obsessions. They all happen to be beauty related this week, but I promise they won’t always be.

To start off, The Wet Brush has literally saved my life. I have always struggled with brushing my hair. My Dad actually would blow dry my hair for me up until the age of 10 (bless him). It just seems like every time I brush it, I’m in pain trying to get all of the knots out. And then 10 minutes later it’s already a giant knot again. Well, I no longer have this problem. The Wet Brush is designed to glide through wet hair (just out of the shower hair) and detangle those nasty knots. I think it’s intended for kids, but if it works it works! I no longer need to use detangler and therefore my hair stays clean longer. Its only $6.89 on Amazon.com. Have you ever bought a brush for $6.89?!

I recently ran across the Goody Simple Styles Spin Pins and was a bit confused. First of all, they look like trampoline springs and are intended for your hair?  If you read the paragraph above, you’ll understand why I wouldn’t want to use them. I can barely brush my hair let alone pull a metal spring out of it. But, to my surprise, these little pins pop in and out without any pulling or pinching. They are intended to be used to hold a bun (instead of using a hair tie). I’ll post a quick video tutorial this weekend on how to use them, but I promise it’s really easy. And they keep your hair in place! If you’re putting your hair in a bun frequently (I feel like everyone is right now because they are in style), I highly recommend these.

Lastly, CoverGirl NatureLuxe foundation. I know, this has been out for almost a year but I finally got around to trying it. It’s super light and still provides good coverage. It also comes in my shade (see though/translucent skin -100) so that makes me happy! This also works great with the Beauty Blender.

The Beauty Blender

It’s not often I buy a beauty product and feel like it’s so revolutionary that I have to tell everyone about it. But finally I have an exception; the Beauty Blender. I have seen this little pink teardrop in magazines, makeup tutorials, and even in my friends makeup bags, but I never really understood all of the hype. For those of you who don’t know, the Beauty Blender is a non-disposable sponge applicator that helps you to apply makeup (like foundation, creme blush and even concealer). It’s meant to replace your disposable triangle sponges that you buy at the drugstore.

So, I took matters into my own hands and went out and purchased one of these little sponges. Brace yourself if you go out to buy one, one blender is $19.95 and two are $25.95  (I recommend 2). The sales clerk also tried to talk me into buying the cleaner, but I was still a little shell-shocked over the price so I decided I’d try to clean it myself (big mistake just buy the fricken cleaner for $17.95).

I got home and tried out my Beauty Blender and to my surprise, my foundation looked absolutely flawless. I couldn’t believe how airbrushed/ dewy I looked. I also loved that I only had to use a little foundation. Because you run the sponge under water before applying your makeup, the sponge doesn’t absorb extra foundation and you end up using a fraction of what you normally would.

Below is a quick description of how to use the blender.

  1. Take the sponge out of its case by pulling it THROUGH THE BOTTOM of the holder. If you pull it through the top you will most likely rip the sponge.
  2. Run the sponge under tap water (I usually use warm water) for about 10 seconds (you’ll notice that the sponge will double in size). Ring out the extra water, then wrap it in a towel and squeeze out any extra moisture. The sponge will feel moist but shouldn’t be soaking wet.
  3. Take your liquid foundation and put it on the back of your hand. This will serve as your working surface.
  4. Take the top (point) of the sponge and dip it into the foundation. Stipple the sponge on the back of your hand to be sure you don’t have excess foundation. Then, begin applying the foundation to your face using a sipping motion. Don’t drag the sponge across your face, this will leave you looking matte and blah.
  5. Use the smallest point to get those hard areas around your nose and eyes.
  6. Tada! You’re done (and probably look amazing)

Unfortunately, I wasn’t ready to dish out $17 for the cleaner, so I usually rinse my sponge out under the sink when finished. I have had my beauty blender for about 2 months now and have been so happy with my results. If you are thinking about purchasing one, I have a few tips. First, just splurge and buy the blender/ cleaner duo ($34.95 at Sephora.com). If you don’t buy the cleaner, your sponge does begin to get dirty and the more you wash it under the sink the more it starts to fall apart. I would also recommend buying two of the blenders. After two months, mine is about on its last leg. It’ll save you a trip to the store. On the bright side,  I use a smaller amount of foundation and my application time is cut in half!

Do you have a Beauty Blender? Do you love it? Let me know!

Max & Chloe Monogram Necklace

I have to tell you all about my favorite piece of jewelry that I own. To start off, I really don’t wear jewelry. I had my ears pierced when I was 10 (I think) and can probably count on one hand the times I have worn earrings. In fact, most of my friends don’t know that I have my ears pierced. I also have freakishly small wrists and find that bracelets always fall off. Rings are okay, but I end up taking them off when I’m on the computer. Long story short, I’m usually just better off without jewelry. But necklaces are a different story (I can usually wear them). Not cool chunky costume jewelry, but a small necklace on a chain that can go with everything. And when I say everything… I mean everything. I need to be able to wear this necklace with a tee-shirt, a ball gown, a Halloween costume and my pajamas.

I got my first monogram necklace at a store in my hometown (Bella Home) and fell love. I quickly realized that I could wear it with just about everything, it was really comfortable, and never got in the way. Sadly the necklace was only gold dipped and tarnished about 6 months after I got it. But even as it turned, I continued to wear it. Then as a wonderful surprise, my parents gave me a gold Max & Chloe Monogram Necklace for graduation.  It was just as amazing as the one I previously had, but with the promise of not turning (because it was gold and not gold dipped).

Today, I’m still really really happy with the necklace and wear it everywhere. Yoga, in the shower, to the store, out to dinner, to interviews, and to sleep. If you are thinking about buying a monogram necklace and are trying to decide if  you’ll like it, I would recommend buying a gold dipped option. Once you see how often you wear it, you can decided if it’s worth investing in solid gold.

Out of all of my belongings, I think it’s one of the more special pieces I have. What can be more you than your initials?

Just had to share this commercial with all of you. Apparently it was around for the Super Bowl, but I didn’t see it until last week. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do!
