Pink Olive’s Christmas in July Party

Yesterday I had the privilege of attending Pink Olive‘s Christmas in July Party where the exclusive Pink Olive Gifting Kit from Knot & Bow was launched. The party was held at the Pink Olive Park Slope location and was crawling with inspirational creatives like  Glitter + Rye (who designed the adorable windows) & Rebecca Beach of A Daily Something. I got a chance to mix & mingle with fellow bloggers, and hear some of their tips for gift wrappin’ and gift givin’. Aside from the torrential downpour and the slightly scary lightning storm, the night was a blast!

p.s. We had the most amazing pumpkin whoopie pies from One Girl Cookies. I could have had about 7 more, but I put a stop at 1. Yey me!

I’m Going To BLOGSHOP!

image via blogshopla.bigcartel.com/

I’ll be honest, I’m really a little obsessed with Bri Emery of Designlovefest.com. I’ve never met her, but I give her blog total credit for my current freelance position over at Knot & Bow (I found Knot & Bow while browsing through Designlovefest.com). Everything she shares is not only informative, but it’s breathtaking and beautiful. My goal here at LoveSwettandNeonPink.com is to share information and ideas in a beautiful way (I have a long way to go to get to Bri’s status but I won’t stop trying!).  That’s why I’m so excited to be attending Bri and Angela Kohler’s 2 day BLOGSHOP class here in NYC! Here’s a little more information about the event:

“BLOGSHOP is a Photoshop bootcamp, minus the push-ups. It is a full weekend spent stuffing your brain full of things to make your images on your blog unique and eye catching. We teach the basics from scratch as well as some more advanced techniques in a way that even beginners can understand. Then you apply the techniques with your own layouts and style that you will use when you go back to your own blog.
People who have no experience with Photoshop will leave the course with confidence to create layout, prep images for mood boards and collages, retouch skin and color correct images, animate gifs, add textures, borders, type and drawing to their images to make each of their blog posts or other visual materials special. At the end of the first day we will have a portrait session, so on the second day you can work on your own pictures which will be perfect for contributor photos and bio pages.”

I’ve heard nothing but amazing things about this class and can’t tell you how excited I am to share everything I learn. If you’d like to sign up for BLOGSHOP or check out their other class locations, click here!

Hip Hip…..Hooray!

I recently came across these bags and have completely fallen in love. I won’t even use the term “fanny pack” to describe them because they are so BEYOND that 80’s accessory. I’ll admit it, sometimes I just don’t want to carry a purse. At one point in my life I actually recall putting my purse inside a Forever 21 bag just so I didn’t have to carry it. But with the “hipster” from Hipster For Sisters, you no longer have to carry your purse. It simply straps around your waist, and you’re on your way!

Not only is this bag stylish, but it’s smart too! The “hipster” is impeccably constructed by hand in the USA and is made from an exceptionally durable, stain and graffiti resistant, eco-certified and animal-friendly fabric. Not to mention the interior is lined with an amazing 100% silk charmeuse. What makes me love these bags even more is that inside each hipster there’s a matching change purse that can hold your credit cards, driver’s license and even some cash! It’s perfect for those moments when you’re running to grab a coffee and don’t want to bring your whole purse.  For $310 this bag is a steal.

So channel your inner 80’s girl (a much more stylish one of course… with less leg warmers and lower side ponytail) and check out all of the bags at hipstersforsisters.com.

P.S. Catch all the latest Hipster For Sisters updates by following them on Twitter and Facebook!

My Current Obsession

Happy Friday! Hope everyone had an AMAZING week. I felt like it went a little slow, but that’s okay because now it’s the weekend and I couldn’t be more excited! I’m going home to spend some quality time with my mom! But before the weekend, I just had to share my current obsession. On Wednesday I went to the Rebecca Minkoff sample sale (I know, it was just as amazing as it sounds) and I scored this AMAZING iPad case. It’s neon pink and literally what I have been dreaming of for some time. Your iPad goes inside the case and it can even stand up when you flip the cover backwards. I have looked everywhere online and can’t find where this is normally sold but if you have time, hop on over to the sample sale and grab one for yourself! The hours are Sat., 10 a.m.-8 p.m.; Sun., 10 a.m.-4 p.m. ENJOY!

* Found it…on sale! You’re welcome.

Quick Fix: Mascara

I don’t know about you, but I don’t go anywhere without mascara. It’s one of those things that takes 1 minute to apply and I swear it makes a world of difference. But because I use my mascara all the time, I find it dries out quickly. I’m pretty religious about throwing it out every 3 months (really, anything that close to your eye shouldn’t be staying around too long) but I still find the formula ages quickly. And believe me, I’ve tried just about every mascara out there. So I came up with what I think is a brilliant technique to get that “fresh out of the package application” with a mascara that is less than new. My secret? HOT WATER!

Before you apply your mascara, turn on your hot water and give it a second to warm up. The water doesn’t need to be scolding, just hot. Make sure your mascara is sealed tight, and hold it under the running water for about 10-15 seconds. When you’re done, open it up and voilà! Your mascara is good as new.

Rifle Paper Co.

Thanks to Erin over at Knot & Bow, I recently discovered Rifle Paper Co. and have completely fallen in love. This boutique stationary brand has cards, notebooks, notepads, calendars, and place card settings with darling designs. I couldn’t help but think that the above would make for a prefect Mother’s Day gift! Check our their site and get ready to fall in love!

Hello Lovely…

I love dresses. Really really love dresses. I went through a phase in college where I only wore dresses. I think I may still be in the phase, but living in NYC you have to be a little more realistic about the weather/ temperature. There’s no hopping in a car and driving exactly where you need to be. There’s almost always walking involved in city activities. Regardless, when the weather gets warm, my dresses collection comes out!

I bought this dress (above) at H&M for $29.95 (I also bought it in mint green). It’s super comfortable and could be cute for work, a lunch or even a fun summer dinner!

My Desk!

It’s funny to think how much time we spend at our desk. If you work in an office you may be there around 40 hours a week. If you work from home, it may be more! Because we spend so much time sitting there, may people view it as somewhat of  a “jail cell.” I have never been to jail, but I can’t imagine it’s nearly as fun as my desk. Anyways, my point is everyone should make their desk fun and a place they enjoy. I would like to introduce you to my desk (above). I spend more time than I’d like to admit sitting there and can say I truly enjoy it. So check out some of my favorite pieces on my desk and let me know what you keep on yours!

Light-Up Gummy Bear: How can you not smile when you have a light-up gummy bear on your desk. For a fun touch, add a tiara!

Bobble Water Bottle: Sometimes I go a whole day without drinking a single drop of water. THAT’S SO BAD! So now I always keep a water bottle on my desk to help remind me to drink up. The Bobble has a built-in water filter that makes any tap water taste fancy.

FujiFilm Instant Camera: There is something amazing about having a tangible photo moments after you take it. Call me old school, but I love this instant camera. You know my obsessions with photo booths!

EOS Lip Balm: You can never have too much chopstick and this one is cute enough to keep around.

Hair Tie: Don’t tell me you’ve never gone to work without a hair tie. It’s like trying to run a marathon in flip-flops! I always keep extras at my desk.

Knot & Bow Stickers: Like Pringles, once you pop the fun don’t stop. These cute heart stickers make everything look a little more fun.

Evian Mist: Keeps your skin feeling hydrated and fresh!

Mac Desktop: I know I sound like a 90 year-old loser, but I love desktop computers. Knowing that my work can’t follow me around (like a laptop) inspires me to sit down, bang it out, and be done with it. Plus the screen is big and easy to read!

Glitter Nail Polish

I know, another nail polish post. I can’t help it! I’ve had an OPI Gel manicure for the past 3 months and just got it off over Easter weekend. Since I haven’t been able to experiment with polish for so long, I’ve kind of gone crazy recently. Just bare with me, I promise there won’t be many more!

My all time favorite nail polish is Mint Candy Apple by Essie and ironically enough I can never find it anywhere! So, I used my best detective skills and found a similar shade at the drugstore (Sally Hansen Hard as Nails Xtreme Wear Nail Color in Mint Sorbet). When my nails were finally free of gel I wanted to give them a fresh coat of my “Mint Candy Apple look-alike.” While  perusing the aisles of CVS I came across Milani Jewel FX Nail Polish in Gems. It immediately caught my eye because the polish is full of different sizes and colors of glitter making it (almost) like confetti! Anyways, I thought it would be fun to layer over Mint Sorbet so I gave it a try and loved the results.

If you want to try this glitter polish at home remember that a little goes a long way so stick to one coat. Also, if you ever have a super chipped manicure, it’s great to throw on as a topcoat. The glitter will distract people from your chipped polish and it dries in seconds!

Cinemagram

Created with cinemagr.am

About a year and a half ago I discovered the app Instagram and I think it’s safe to say that it changed the way I use my iPhone. The iPhone camera has always been good, but there was something missing. I never felt like my pictures lived up to my experiences. But once I started using Instagram that totally changed. You have so many filters you can make a boring picture look like a work of art.

I never though I would find another photo app that I loved as much as Instagram. That was until I discovered Cinemagram. To keep it short, Cinemagram is “a fun and beautiful way to animate your photos.”  You take a short 2-3 second video, select the area you’d like to animate, and then choose a filter. Voila! You’ve created an amazing image that looks like it belongs on the front page of “The Daily Prophet” (that’s right, the newspaper in Harry Potter…don’t act like you didn’t know that!)

Check our the Cinemagram tumblr account as well as the fun Cinemagrams (above and below) that my sister and I took!
